Thunderstruck II receives a 10-year Microgaming makeover

Online slots kings Microgaming have released plenty of classic titles since they have been in business. Countless online slots players have poured their internet coins into slotting titles such as Mega Moolah, Immortal Romance and Major Millions. One Microgaming game that is still as popular today as it was when it was first released is Thunderstuck II, and to celebrate the tenth anniversary of their legendary game (in more ways than one) Microgaming are releasing a brand new version, complete with contemporary makeover.

Thunderstruck has been a Microgaming brand for sixteen years!

The original Thunderstruck game arrived on the online casino scene in 2004 at a time when online casinos were really only just becoming popular. A classic game based on Norse mythology with Thor – the god of thunder – naturally taking centre stage. The game had five reels and nine paylines, which was something of the norm at the time, and grew to be very popular.

So popular in fact that Microgaming thought that a sequel was in order, and they released Thunderstruck II towards the end of 2010. This game was an improvement (or an upgrade) with the same 5×3 configuration but now with a whopping 243 ways to win! Additional gods such as Odin, Loki and Valkyrie now joined Thor on the reels and the game included some very nice features.

The main achievement you could unlock via Thunderstruck II was entry into The Great Hall of Spins. Valkyrie would be your godly guide once you enter the great hall, but on the fifth time of your entry Loki would take over for extra benefits. The god-like baton was passed to Odin on ten entries and then Thor on fifteen. By this stage you would have unlocked twenty-five free spins and the ‘Rolling Reels’ feature and a win multiplier.

The Great Hall of Spins in Thunderstruck II was one of 2010’s most innovative slot features

Once you unlocked all four gods every subsequent entry into The Great Hall of Spins allowed you to choose which god you wanted to be your guide, and therefore which features would be in play.

Now Thunderstruck II has reached ten years of age, the game is going to receive a makeover. Details are uncertain at the moment, but expect enhanced audio and video, faster loading and the new game to be more mobile-friendly. Microgaming have released a scant teaser-trailer, but as yet no release date.
