1st of the Irish Review

Look and Feel

Begorrah! If there’s one thing the slotting internet does not perhaps need it’s yet another Irish-themed slot, yet here is yet another one – 1st of the Irish from Red Rake. This game has a massive six reels and no less than five rows. It also has all the symbols you’d perhaps associate with da Emerald Isle – shamrocks, rainbows, harps and pints of the legendary black stuff. It also has a handful of unique features, which is why we are blessing it with a review. This is one of those cluster pays slots when you score wins by landing clustered symbols (between five in total and the maximum of thirty).

Jackpot

This game does not have any kind of progressive jackpot attached to it. You can still win a tasty amount if the luck of the Irish does descend upon you, up to 5,000 times the size of your bet. Check out casino limits though when you play this game.

Play for Real Money

You can play this game for play money if you are in Ireland, but not if you are in the UK. This is down to UKGC restrictions. You can always play this game for real money, though and there are plenty of places where you can do just that. Once place we can recommend to you is 22Bet. If you register for an account there make sure you take up any of the amazing offers you may be entitled to.

Rules

The entertainment starts with 1st of the Irish when you select your bet size. This can be as low as £0.08 or as high as £20.00.

We are not going to recreate the paytable here as it simply has too many entries – over two hundred in fact. Just rest assured that the more symbols you land in a cluster, the bigger the payout. Below we have ranked each symbol in value, and the maximum amount you can win for thirty symbols with the £20.00 stake:

  • Pot of Gold (£10,000)
  • Horseshoe (£5,000)
  • Harp (£4,500)
  • Pint of the Black Stuff (£2,000)
  • Hat (£2,000)
  • Pipe (£2,000)
  • Shamrock (£1,800)
  • Rainbow (£1,800)

A ‘cluster’ is any set of identical symbols that touch horizontally or vertically – not diagonally. This is also a cascading wins slot, in that any winning symbols vanish from the reels upon a win and new one fall down to replace them.

The Irishman symbols acts as a wild in this game, and he substitutes for all other symbols.

Five of the symbols in the game – the pipe, stout, shamrock, hat and rainbow – each have a meter attached to them. Every time that you win a cluster containing these symbols, the meter will fill with the number of symbols contained within the win (wilds do not count). Each meter has nice spaces, and once the meter is filled, the corresponding side game is launched. Each meter is reset at the start of each spin.

  • Pipe – One symbol becomes a multiplier. The number of symbols landed is the value of the multiplier. All wins are multiplied by the multiplier value.
  • Beer – A grid of 3×3 beers appears, turning existing symbols into the same symbols (but not the wild).
  • Shamrock – Four sticky wilds appear on the reels. Each wild has three lives, and once the lives are up the symbol vanishes.
  • Hat – A wild will appear on a random reel and place eight wilds in total upon the reels. Some of wilds will be unseen above the reels, but they will drop down if the wilds below them become involved in cascading wins.
  • Rainbow – You are awarded a dozen free spins. The hat and rainbow meters are not reset at the end of each free spin (as all meters are normally). If you refill the rainbow meter during free spins then you are awarded a total prize multiplier of x2, which then increases by one each subsequent time you fill the meter.

Graphics and Sounds

You can’t have an Irish-themed slot without the obligatory Irish music of course … except that you can when it comes to 1st of the Irish! Instead of music you get the soft twinkling of birds and other natural sounds. Sadly, this pleasantness is ruined somewhat with a ‘not very appealing’ electro noise when the reels roll. There are other various stabs and sounds when you land a win, and these are upped in ‘frenzy-ness’ as you land cascading wins.

The graphics are largely static when they are not rolling around. This is a fast-paced slot thought, so excessive flashiness is not really necessary. The slot does a little bit old-fashioned, if truth be told, but its appearance is not detrimental to its playability.

Conclusion

It would be a pity if you ignored 1st of the Irish because it’s yet another Irish-themed slot. There’s plenty of playability here, plus a very pleasant bunch of features that thought has been put into.

Go on go on go on go on and give 1st of the Irish a go at one of the many online casino and slots sites recommend by the slotting experts here at JustSlots!
