Playtech is famous for rolling out progressive games furiously, and the Age of the Gods slot is one its jackpots right now. It’s a series of games featuring epic Greek mythology characters, all tied to equally epic prizes and you’ll find different Age of the Gods slots at online casinos. This Age of the Gods slot review will focus on the original, the first of the series, as it really encapsulates the whole concept of the series.
Look and Feel
Age of the Gods is a gorgeous slot, but there is no funky innovation here. Greek mythology is all about a classical beauty and Playtech has remained faithful to these principles. Set against a royal blue landscape of mountains, waterfalls and palaces, subtly adorned with touches of gold, the atmosphere here is suitably godly and majestic. The main characters, Zeus, Poseidon, Hercules, and Athena are handsomely drawn and shimmering. The game opens with a suspenseful soundtrack to get you into the mood, but once you start spinning it all becomes quite quiet with just the usual beeps and whirls of a slot machine.
How to Play
Playtech has made things simple so that all you need to do is set the Line Bet in the game’s menu bar to get rolling. Line Bet ranges from 1p to £25. You are always betting on all 20 lines. That means minimum bet per spin is 20p, and maximum is at £500. There’s plenty of range here for both low and high rollers here.
There’s an Autoplay function that goes up to 99 spins, and a Turbo mode that makes each spin just a touch shorter so that you get results faster. In the Special Features and Bonuses section, we’ll tell you how to win the Age of the Gods jackpot.
Symbols in Age of the Gods
Starting from the highest paying symbol, the symbols in the Age of the Gods slot are:
- Wild on laurel wreath (also a Wild)
- Athena (goddess in red)
- Zeus (god in blue), Poseidon (god in green)
- Hercules (god in yellow)
- Pandora (goddess in pink), Hades (god in purple)
- Golden Helmet
- A, K, Q
- Age of the Gods logo (also a Scatter)
In addition to dedicated Wild and Scatter symbols, the gods and goddesses all have the potential to trigger bonus games. We’ll talk more about that below.
Special Features and Bonuses
There’s plenty packed into the AoG slot, and we’ll start off with that progressive jackpot.
How to Win the Jackpot: To win the Age of the Gods jackpot, you will have to enter the jackpot bonus game. There are no special symbols needed to enter this round and it can happen on any spin, including non-winning ones. Once you’re in the bonus game, you’re guaranteed to win one of the 4 jackpots, with the Ultimate Power jackpot being the biggest one. You’ll see a grid of 20 coins, and you will flip them over to reveal symbols for the 4 different jackpots. When you reveal 3 of the same symbols, then that jackpot is yours.
Pantheon of Power: Have the gods and goddesses, minus Hades, to line up on a payline and you will win 200x your bet.
Age of the Gods Bonus: T3 of the AoG Scatter symbols will trigger this feature. There will be 20 coins, and you will flip them over to reveal the god or goddess they each represent. Get 3 of the same and you will enter into the corresponding Free Game. However, should you reveal Hades, then you will immediately return to the base game.
AoG Free Games: 7 Each of the gods and goddesses, with the exception of Hades, come with a Free Game feature:
- Athena: 9 spins that will have a multiplier between 2x and 5x on every spin.
- Zeus: 9 spins starting on a 1x multiplier. On every 3rd spin, the multiplier will increase by 1. There will also be a Wild locked in the centre of Reel 3.
- Poseidon: 9 spins. During any of these spins, lightning from Poseidon’s fork will shoot out to transform 5 symbols into Wilds.
- Hercules: 9 spins in which Hercules will stand as a Stacked Wild on Reel 3.
Age of the Gods Compared to Other Slots
Age of the Gods is actually a series of jackpot games and Playtech has released more AoG slots dedicated to the deities. They all have access to the massive progressive jackpot, but each have different gameplay. We’ll talk about a few of them here so you can decide which one if the best Age of the Gods slot.
AoG King of Olympus features Zeus. This game’s main bonus feature is a round of 10 Free Spins that come with an increasing multiplier starting at 2x. Out of all the Age of the Gods slots, this one probably has the fewest bonus features.
AoG Goddess of Wisdom is Athena’s game. This one comes with a Battle Game Bonus that gives you a few choices. You can choose between more spins but with a lower multiplier, or fewer spins with a higher multiplier. All of the choices come with an expanding wild.
AoG Prince of Olympus features Hercules. You’ll see free spins with multipliers, stacked wilds with re-spins, and the famous Hydra Bonus round where you’ll shoot arrows to kill the 9-headed monster, revealing cash prizes and then a multiplier at the end.
Age of the Gods Fairness
Age of the Gods has a RTP of 95.02% and is known as a medium volatility slot. That’s pretty decent from a data perspective. The RTP is in line with most of the video slots that are released today that focus on a good stream of payouts and the volatility means that there can be some decent sized wins in store. On top of that, this is a game from Playtech, a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange and one of the bigger software developers in the industry, so this slot certainly comes from a reputable background.
Tips for Playing Age of the Gods
One of the best things about this slot is that you can trigger Age of the Gods randomly with every spin, even if you don’t hit a pay line. However, Playtech does say that bigger bets will increase your chances of entering the bonus game. Thus, even though players have won the jackpot with small bets, you may want to consider going above the minimum bet of 20p per spin.
Hype or Not?
The release of Age of the Gods came with much hype. While we were a bit sceptical at first, after having played the slot, we are now happy to confirm that this the real deal. Not only do you have a jackpot that’s usually pays around £500k and sometimes quite a bit more, but the slot itself is full of bonus features that pop up frequently to make for excellent game play all round.
The hype is real. Age of the Gods is a brilliant game and unlike a lot of progressive games where the main draw is a massive pot of money that not everyone’s going to win, this slot also comes with plenty of bonus features on top of the hope of riches. Age of the Gods is a brilliant video slot and jackpot game all round and we highly recommend that you give it a shot.
