Book of Sheba: The Golden Book Review

Look and Feel

There’s a bit of a pandemic when it comes to online slot releases in the summer 2020, and that’s slots with an Eastern look and feel! Following on from Ali Baba’s Luck and Golden Genie we now have Book of Sheba: The Golden Book from iSoftBet. This game, which should soon be available at the larger percentage of online slot sites, has a typical look and feel but has some nice bonus features too.

Before we get into the review a bit of a history lesson! Sheba was a kingdom that’s mentioned in both the Quran and the Hebrew Bible, however, it’s unlikely that Sheba actually existed. The most famous aspect of Sheba is the ‘Queen of Sheba’, a legendary leader who was a bit of a fan of the Israelite King Solomon. Are we fans of this slot, though? Read on to find out!

You can search in the Book of Sheba all you want, but you will not find a progressive jackpot as the game does not possess one. The maximum amount you can win is 5,000 times the value of your total stake.

Play for Real Money

Players in the UK will not be able to play this slot for play money or for free, due to restrictions imposed by the UKGC. Playing for real money is perfectly possible though and there are plenty of places where you can achieve that, including Video Slots. This slotting paradise has one of biggest game portfolios available anywhere, and some great deals too, so make sure you check them out.

To open the Book of Sheba you first need to select the size of your wager. This can be anything from £0.10 to £20.00. Each spin cost ten coins. Wins are scored in the usual way – two or more identical symbols on one of the ten paylines, starting from the left-hand reel. Wins are paid as coins in line with the following table

Symbol2 on a payline3 on a payline4 on a payline5 on a payline
Queen of Sheba101001,0005,000
Cat Mask530100750

Three or more book symbols anywhere on the reels will gift you 10 free spins. When your free spins commence, one expanding symbol is chosen at random. You can accept the symbol chosen or try one more time if you don’t like the selection. When it lands, this symbol will expand to fill the entire reel. This should trigger wins across all ten paylines.

You also win a prize if the book symbol lands (minimum of three). This is twice your total bet for three symbols, 20 times your total bet for four and 200 times your total bet for five.

The Golden Book symbol is available on the middle three reels during free spins. If a Golden Book symbol lands it becomes a reel gold for the remainder of your free spins. Golden Book symbols are both scatters and wilds. Reel gold symbols will expand and change into a symbol that guarantees at least one winning combination.

There the Ultra Bet feature here as well. When you press this button you play fifty games for fifty times the size of your bet (so be careful!). The reels will now contain stars and you collect stars to add prize multipliers to your wins – the more stars, the bigger the multiplier. Note that not all online casinos will offer this as an option.

Graphics and Sounds

Graphically, this game has taken the ‘retro’ approach as the symbols are all, kind of, old-fashioned looking. Think of a ‘new’ slot that was released about a decade ago and you are just about there. In 2020, that’s a little bit disappointing! This slot could look a lot better if ISoftBet had put a bit more effort in.

The music is much better though. In fact of all the recent swathe of ‘Mystical East’ slots we think Book of Sheba has the best music! We’d happily play this slot just to listen to the soundtrack. The rest of the sounds used are as you’d expect.

Hmmm … we’ve seen a lot of these retro-looking slots of late and we don’t really know why. Things have moved on a lot in the slotting realm which it comes to graphics, so we don’t know why software houses are creating slots that look as if they were created in 2010, and not as new online slots in 2020. They must still be popular though as people keep playing them!

The gameplay here is okay but we think it could have been a lot better. Nice enough, is the best way we can think of putting it. You might find it more playable than us, though, so why not try Book of Sheba: The Golden Book at one of our many recommended online casinos?

Q. A lot of online slots have a ‘Book of …’ theme. How many are they?

A. Yes, ‘Book of …’ is a bizarre slot games motif. Even just off the top of our heads we can think of Book of Ra, Book of Dead, Book of Fortune and Book of Oz. There’s a whole library of ‘Book of …’ slots out there!

Q. Is Video Slots all about slots? Can I play casino games there, too?

A. Video Slots is mostly about slots but there are countless casino games you can play there too, including blackjack, baccarat and roulette. There are a number of live casino options available at the site too.

Q. Hey! I’m playing Book of Sheba in the UK and there’s no ‘Ultra Bet’ feature!

A. The UKGC has outlawed ‘buy feature’ options on online slots. Ultra Bet is not quite a buy feature but is close enough, which is why it might not be available at some online casinos with UKGC licences.
