Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay Review

Look and Feel

Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay is a 3 reel, 3 row slot with 5 pay lines from Play’n GO. As a rule here at JustSlots we do not review ‘classic’ 3-reel slots as they’re a bit old-fashioned, and indeed this game from Play’n GO IS old-fashioned, but in a good way, as it’s a little bit different. It has been built to resemble a cartoon from the 1930s (think Betty Boop if that’s a reference you get). Fun fact! Early animators made their characters all bouncy as they thought people would get bored looking at drawings that weren’t constantly moving!

Jackpot

There is no such thing as a progressive jackpot that’s usually attached to this game. The maximum that is available for you to win is 6,666x times your stake, which can be as high as £100. This maxes out then at £666,000 but be aware the casino at which you play this slot may put ‘win limits’ in place.

Play for Real Money

You will not be able to play Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay for play money if you are based in the UK, due to UKGC rules. There are plenty of places though to play for real money if you sign up for an account at registered online casino, slots site or bingo room. One casino we can recommend is Yako Casino which carries this Play’n GO game. If you register your account there make sure you check up on the site’s bonus offers!

Rules

The first step for Charlie Chance (a take on Charlie Chaplin if you haven’t worked out) on his way to hell is to select your bet size. This can be anything from £0.10 up to the maximum of £100.00 which we have already mentioned.

As this slot only has five paylines and three reels it’s very easy to work out whether you have secured a win or not. All you need is to do is complete the classic identical symbol combination on a payline. Wins are paid out as multiples of your stake in line with the following table

As this is the ‘woke’ generation it won’t surprise you (perhaps) to learn that the Devil in this game is female! She acts as the scatter, and landing three of the Lady of Darkness in this game will trigger the special Feature Board.

There are five potential features in total:

  • Instant Prize: An instant prize is awarded which can be up to a maximum of ten times your total bet.
  • Multiplier Re-spin: You are awarded a re-spin which comes loaded with a random multiplier which will be worth x2, x3 or even x25 any win.
  • Wild Re-spin: You are awarded a re-spin with up to a maximum of nine wild symbols added to the reels.
  • Win Spin: The middle reel becomes completely wild, and the right-hand reel nudges until a win is achieved.
  • Free Spin: You are awarded eight free spins.

If you are awarded free spins then your initial award is eight free spins. You can re-trigger free spins during your freebies (and other features) by collecting scatters along the way, which accumulate when you spin.

The ‘wild’ symbol in this game is – of course – wild but some wilds come complete with a x2 or x3 multiplier that multiplies the total win that the wild is involved in. The wild substitute for all other symbols aside from the scatter symbol.

Graphics and Sounds

This title most definitely does have an odd-fashioned cartoon feel, and not only because of the images are black and white. Both Charlie Chance and the Lady of Darkness are stationary, but they bounce around at the same time – just like the first cartoons of a century ago and those spoofed on modern cartoons such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. It can be a little distracting at times, but as your eyes are drawn to the reels (which are in colour, thankfully), you don’t really notice that much. It does look cool, though – initially at least.

The animation increases when you land a feature though. The devil slams her fork into the ground causing Charlie Chance to select one of the features for you.

The music is in keeping with the slots theme, although perhaps it’s a good thing that it doesn’t sound as ancient as perhaps you’d be fearing. The rest of the sounds fit in perfectly with this game.

Conclusion

As we explained in our intro we don’t typically review 3-reel slots here at JustSlots are we – as well as just about everyone else – prefers the 5-reel variety. We’ve made an exception here though as Charlie Chance in Hell to Play is one of the best 3-reel slots we’ve ever come across and we hope, when you play at one of JustSlots recommended online casino sites you will feel it’s worth taking a chance (in hell or not!) upon.
