Da Vinci Diamonds

Look and Feel

Da Vinci Diamonds is an extremely popular 5-reel, 3-row slot with 20 pay lines. Leonardo da Vinci was of course an extremely talented individual who lived in Italy (or the Republic of Florence as Italy didn’t exist at the time) in the 1400s. He was an artist, scientist and mathematician among other things.

He is most famed for painting both the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper and inventing the helicopter. No one is quite sure what Da Vinci has to do with diamonds, but IGT must have spotted a link as they named this slot ‘Da Vinci Diamonds’!

This is a classic game that’s been around for ages yet remains as popular today as it did when it first came out.

Jackpot

You might not be buying many diamonds when you play this game, as it does not have a progressive jackpot. The most you can win is 5,000 coins for five ‘Da Vinci Diamond’ symbols. You can set your coin size to max of £100, meaning the highest potential win is £500,000.

Play for Real Money

If you are based in the UK, you may be hard-pressed to find the Da Vinci Diamonds demo version because of UKGC rules. You should be able to play for play money once you have signed up at an online casino, slots or bingo site, with the added benefit that you will be able to play for real money too. If you like IGT slots, then we suggest you sign up at Costa Games where they have plenty of IGT games. Check out the site’s bonuses and promotions while you are there, too!

Rules

There are 20 paylines in this game and all twenty are in play at all times. You can set your line bet (depending on casino limits) to anything between £0.01 and £100. This will give you a range of total bets from £0.20 all the way up to £2,000 per spin.

The ‘Wild’ symbol in this game is wild and substitutes for all other symbols aside from the bonus symbol.

This game has a ‘tumbling symbols’ feature. If you land a winning combination of symbols then all symbols that contributed to that win vanish, and new ones fall from the top of the screen to replace them. This feature continues until no more winning lines are possible.

All wins are paid as a multiples of the line bet. To land a win, you need to land three identical symbols in sequence on an active payline from the left-hand-reel onwards. Winning combinations are paid out as follows:

** only available during free bonus scatter wins

This game has only one bonus feature aside from the tumbling reels. The free spins bonus feature is triggered when three bonus symbols appear on a payline on the first three reels. Six free spins are then awarded to the player.

Extra symbols (see above) are added to the reels during free spins. In the table, all symbols marked ** are scatters, meaning they can land anywhere in order to secure a win. If you land more bonus symbols during free spins you receive additional free spins as follows:

  • 3 symbols = 2, 3 or 4 additional spins
  • 4 symbols = 4, 6, 8 or 10 additional spins
  • 5 symbols = 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15 additional spins

The bonus games end when all free spins are used or 300 free spins have been awarded.

Graphics and Sounds

Six of Leonardo Da Vinci’s most famous artworks make up the symbols used in this game, including the mysteriously lady herself, the Mona Lisa. These portraits as well as the jewels and other symbols simply fall into the screen upon each spin. There’s very little animation, and indeed it seems very strange to be presented with a completely black screen at the start of each turn.

Music wise, there’s a ‘renaissance-style’ tune that plays during big wins and endlessly during the free spins round. The rest of the sound effects are stings and twangs and a very satisfying explosion when some of the winning symbols disappear.

Conclusion

Da Vinci Diamonds from IGT is a fast-paced game that was one of the first to feature the idea of ‘tumbling reels’ where symbols disappear to be replaced by new ones. This – along with the free spins feature – makes Da Vinci Diamonds a very playable game. If you secure a running sequence of tumbling wins it really does get the pulses racing.

Unfortunately, as this game was released in 2013 it’s beginning to look a little past its sell-by date, with its rather static graphics and stale sound FX. You need to look past this though and enjoy one of the slotting world’s all-time classics.
