Game of Thrones Review

Look and Feel

Unless you’ve been a hermit for the past decade you’ve most definitely heard of ‘Game of Thrones’. It was the sprawling and addictive TV show that took everyone by surprise by its success given that it was based on a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin. The series told of an ancient world where several clans did battle for rulership of the entire realm, or to sit upon the ‘Iron Throne’. When the series whimpered to an end in 2019 it turned out that no one ended up sitting on it as a dragon melted it.

In 2014 Microgaming released a licensed slot based on the TV Series.

Jackpot

This game does not has a progressive jackpot. The maximum amount you can win in normal play is 6,000 coins for five Iron Throne scatter symbols. However, when you apply various multipliers and other factors this can rise to 121,000 coins for the maximum win.

Play for Real Money

Since 2019 players in the UK have not been able to play the Game of Thrones demo game, or for play money without signing up for an online casino. This is due to restrictions put in place by the UKGC. If you want to play Game of Thrones for play money or for real money, then why not sign up for one of JustSlots’ recommended online casinos? We recommend you head for Genesis Casino, where you can play Game of Thrones to your heart’s content. The site usually has some decent bonuses too, so make sure you check them out!

Rules

This is an ‘all ways win’ slot, so you don’t have to worry about paylines. By landing identical symbols across the reels, you secure a win. Which row each symbol lands on does not matter, although you need at least three to secure a win and the sequence must commence on the left-hand reel.

The Game of Thrones logo symbol is wild in this game, and substitutes for all other symbols aside for the scatter symbol.

Each spin costs 30 coins. You can select your bet size from £0.30 to £15.00 for coin sizes between £0.01 to £0.50. All wins are paid as multiples of the coin size in line with the following table:

Scatters can land anywhere to award the player a prize. If you land two scatters anywhere then you will be awarded a random cash amount. The cash amount will appear on the second scatter as a dragon egg which will then glow once the second scatter has landed and has not been added by a third.

If you land at least three scatters anywhere on the reels then you get the choice of one of the following free spins features:

  • Baratheon Free Spins: Eight free spins with a 5x multiplier + 3 stacked house symbols.
  • Lannister Free Spins: Ten free spins with a 4x multiplier + 4 stacked house symbols.
  • Stark Free Spins: Fourteen free spins with a 3x multiplier + 5 stacked house symbols.
  • Targaryen Free Spins: Eighteen free spins with a 2x multiplier + 6 stacked house symbols.

All free spin features can be triggered during the free spins game.

Graphics and Sounds

One thing you will notice straight away about this game is the lack of imagery from the TV Series. Given the huge number of characters available, this is something of a surprise. We are guessing that Microgaming’s licensing did not extend to the use of images of the actors playing the roles.

Instead, we get ‘seals’ depicting four of the main clans or houses doing battle for the Iron Throne. These are the brutish Baratheons, the scheming Lannisters, the noble Starks and the bonkers Targaryens. You would have thought the Targaryens would come further up the paytable, seeing as they are armed with dragons.

The other symbols are the Iron Throne and the Game of Thrones logo. Animation is limited – the logo dissolves to a brief glimpse of the opening titles when it contributes to a win, and the seal symbols illuminate when they land. Thankfully, Microgaming did secure the rights to the recognisable Game of Thrones theme tune, as written by Ramin Djawadi. It’s not quite the theme tune as it is slowed down a bit, but it is certainly close enough.

Conclusion

If you were a fan of the Game of Thrones TV Series then you will know that the final series (which strayed from George R. R. Martin’s epic books) was a bit of a let down. The Game of Thrones slot is a bit of a let down too, mainly due to the lack of extra features and images. It’s still worthy of your time, though. Why not say hi to the god of t*ts and wine by playing Game of Thrones at one of our recommended online casinos?
