The Major Millions slot was one of Microgaming’s most popular games before the developer decided to turn it into a progressive jackpot. The game feels quite dated in terms of its look, as it is also one of Microgaming’s older offerings, but no one really plays jackpots for the visuals. The original jackpot slot is available in 3 reel, 1 payline format. Then there is the newer 5 reel 15 payline game with other features remaining similar. Keep reading this Major Millions slot review to find out more.
Look and Feel
The Major, tanks, planes and other war related items are featured in the Major Millions slot. The game is more than a decade old and it does show in its looks. The 3-reel game even has a bit of that old school fruit machine feel to it. However, it was designed with the best production values of the time, and even though the comic style feels a bit dated, the game overall plays fine.
How to Play
To set your bet size in Major Millions, go to the Cog icon on the top left corner of the screen. It’ll then pull open the menu where you can adjust your Coin Size and the number of Coins per Line. Coin Value starts at 20p. If you’re paying the 3-reel 1 line game, then that’s the minimum bet per spin. You can also adjust the number of Coins per Line. If you’re playing the 15-line game, then be warned that you are always playing on all 15 lines, which makes minimum bet £3, and any increase in the Coins per Line will go up in increments of 15. This isn’t exactly a cheap game.
We’ll explain how the Major Million’s jackpot prize can be won under the Special Features and Bonuses part of this review.
Symbols in Major Millions
Starting from the most valuable, the symbols in the Major Millions slot are:
- Major Millions Logo (also a Wild)
- Major (Man with White Hat)
- “Top Secret” dossier
- Trunk with “Bar” written on it
- Wild: Major Millions Logo
- Scatter: Red symbol that says Scatter
Special Features and Bonuses
Major Millions is known for two things: its progressive jackpot, and the lack of features. Here’s what you can expect.
How to Win the Jackpot: You need 5 Wilds on the 15th payline to win the Major Millions jackpot. The 15th payline starts on the bottom row, and then goes up 1 row on Reel 2, and back down on Reel 3, up again on 4, and down again on 5. That’s it!
Wild Multipliers: The Major Millions game logo is the Wild symbol. Like Wilds in general, the Wild here can substitute for other symbols except the Scatter to give you a winning payline. On top of that though, in Major Millions, these wins will come with a 3x multiplier.
Scatter Wins: The Scatter symbols will multiply your total bet and be added to your payline.
Major Millions Compared to Other Slots
One of Microgaming’s progressive jackpots, Major Millions is going to invoke the name of Mega Moolah. While Major Millions has delivered a couple of payouts in the multi-million range, it starts seeding at just £250k. The wins here tend to be less astronomical than Mega Moolah and are usually around £500,000, and the jackpot is usually ripe in around 6 weeks, compared to Mega Moolah’s 8 weeks.
Major Millions Fairness
The Major Millions slot has a RTP of 89%, which is quite low compared to most video slots released today. The game sits in around the medium volatility mark and all in all, you can see some nice wins, but they won’t be coming round with every other spin. Rest assured though, that this game is fully trustworthy and passes the highest standards in the industry as it’s a Microgaming product after all.
Tips for Playing Major Millions
We’ll begin by saying that although Major Millions is one of the older and more popular slots by Microgaming, it is probably not the first pick we would choose for beginners. While the Wild Multiplier is nice, the game doesn’t really have much else in terms of special features or bonus games. Another thing to bear in mind is that minimum bet per spin on the 15 payline game starts at £3. That’s not cheap at all and for casual players that’s a lot. If you want to give this game a go but the £3 a spin makes you uneasy, the 3 reel 1 payline game is friendlier to those with a tighter budget.
Hype or Not?
There are definitely fans of the Major Millions slot. It sports an old school theme along with the possibility to become rather wealthy overnight. Is it the kind of slot that we would drop everything down to play though? There’s more than a chunk of change at stake, but compared to other jackpot slots out there today, it’s not especially breath taking. At £3 a spin, with few bonus features, we have to say Major Millions is not sitting on top of our priority list.
Major Millions is one of Microgaming’s older progressive jackpots. It’s a popular game, especially with players who enjoy simpler gameplay. The game has few special features beyond the Wild multiplier, so the attention is all on the jackpot. The payout can be satisfying around the half a million mark. One thing to bar in mind is that the minimum bet per spin is quite high, at £3 a spin on the 15 payline game. Make sure you go in fully loaded.
