NetEnt’s Mega Joker slot is a classic slot paired with a progressive jackpot. It’s a three reel five payline fruit machine that comes with Mystery symbols and a Supermeter feature. We’ll tell you how it all works and where to play the Mega Joker slot machine online. It’s also worth noting that there’s another slot with the same name by Novomatic, but in this Mega Joker slot review we’ll be focusing on the NetEnt game.
Look and Feel
Alright, this slot does look cluttered and it’s not the prettiest slot NetEnt has made. If you have any experience with those heavy, old school, steel machines sitting in the pub, Mega Joker will bring you right there. The theme is based on the fruit machine, but there are two sets of reels. The base game is the bottom set, and the set on top is for the Supermeter bonus game. Around the reels are all the different winning combinations possible along with their various payouts. At first it will feel like a lot, but once you get spinning you can settle in quite quickly.
Mega Joker mobile has a cleaner interface though since it will only show one set of reels at a time.
How to Play
Mega Joker is a nine payline slot and the nine lines are always active. Unlike other NetEnt games, the bet level here is fixed at ten coins. That means when you set your bet, you only need to consider your coin size, which are 10p, 20p and £1. Minimum bet size adds up to £1 a spin and the maximum at £10.
There is another set display in red that says, Win, Bet and Coins respectively. The Bet here refers to the coins you’re betting per spin and not your actual bet size. This will change to twenty when you go into Supermeter mode. Your bet size will be displayed in the tiny menu at the bottom of the screen, and will say £1, £2 or £10 depending on your coin value. Once bet size is set, press spin.
After every win, you have the option to Collect, or gamble it through the Supermeter. We’ll talk about that Supermeter as well as the progressive jackpot in the Special Features and Bonuses section.
Symbols in Mega Joker
We’ll start with the symbols in the Mega Joker base game, and then also list the symbols in Supermeter mode. Symbols start from the highest value:
Base game :
- Treasure chest
The Joker can deliver a prize between 20 to 400 coins Supermeter mode:
The Joker in Supermeter mode can deliver between 100 to 2,000 coins.
Special Features and Bonuses
With no bonus rounds, wilds or multipliers, Mega Joker is a really basic game, except for the progressive jackpot and the Supermeter.
How to Win the Progressive Jackpot: Mega Joker has a progressive jackpot that usually pays out around £10k. It’s awarded absolutely randomly and can happen during any spin.
Supermeter: After every win, you have the option to go into Supermeter mode. Depending on how much you won, you can choose to play with 20 coins or 40 coins, with 20 being the minimum. Higher prices however can lead to much bigger rewards and you’ll see that the lower value fruit symbols can pay 5 to 10x more in Supermeter mode.
Mystery Wins: Last but not least, the Joker symbol is a mystery symbol that can deliver prizes worth anywhere between 20 to 2,000 coins.
Mega Joker Compared to Other Slots
Mega Joker is not what we would call a game for beginners. With no bonus features and the highlight being on the Supermeter, which is essentially a gamble on each win, this game is much more suited to experienced gamblers. If you’re looking for other fruit machines that are easier to play, then we would recommend Mystery Joker by Play ‘n Go. The interface is cleaner and friendlier with just three reels, you’ll also get Mystery wins just like in Mega Joker, along with Extra Spins.
Mega Joker Fairness
The Mega Joker slot has a RTP ranging between 85.28% and 99%. The range in RTP depends on how well you play in Supermeter mode as there is some level of skill involved in determining your bet size and when to collect your win. This game is also known as a high volatility game where big wins are possible although they may require patience.
Tips for Playing Mega Joker
You will see plenty of wins in the base game. After all, Mega Joker does have that 99% RTP. They will however mostly be small wins. You can always choose to keep it by pressing Collect, but that’s not really what this game is about. Wins are designed to be frequent at the base game, so you can feel free to take higher risks in Supermeter for bigger prizes.
Hype or Not?
The Mega Joker slot caters to a very specific kind of player. Those who have a knack for a gamble and enjoy risk taking will definitely appreciate this slot’s Supermeter feature. The progressive jackpot is just the cherry on top. However, if you’re just looking for a bit of easy entertainment, there are far better choices.
Mega Joker is not a slot for the newbie. This vintage looking fruit machine from NetEnt was designed for experienced and ambitious players who enjoy a bit of a gamble. You will see frequent wins in the base game that you can bump up by playing the Supermeter. Wins from the Supermeter are significantly bigger but are far less frequent. The Mega Joker slot is the wheeling and dealing of ambitious players who crave the rewards and risks behind high volatility games.
