Rage of the Seas Review

Look and Feel

Rage of the Seas is a September 2020 online slot game release from NetEnt. As you may have guessed, this is an online slots game that takes pirates as its theme. It adds an extra dimension above and beyond normal slots as it has four rows instead of the usual three. It also has the ‘all ways pay’ motif which means the game has no less than 1,024 ways to win, although this can be boosted to even greater dimensions when you activate some features.

In fact if you maximum-out the reels you can complete a 4-7-7-7-4 arrangement which boosts the number of ways you have to win to 5,488. That’s not quite as much as a Megaways slot, but it’s still a hefty number and if good fortune smiles your way then you could be adding fistfuls of doubloons to your treasure chest! The game has plenty of random features too, more than enough to splice anyone’s mainbrace!

Read on me hearties to find out what we think about the Rage of the Seas online slot from NetEnt.

Argh! The bad news is that this online slots game is not in possession of a progressive jackpot. Don’t worry, there are plenty of doubloons to be won in other ways – indeed according to our calculation the maximum treasure that can be won is 27,440 times the size of your bet!

Play for Real Money

There be plenty of places you can play this treasure-laden slot for real money, but if you are in the UK then you will not be able to play it for play money or for free, due to UKGC regulations. There are countless online casinos that host NetEnt’s titles, including Wink Slots. This site has plenty of games plus many great bonuses too so make sure you check them out.

Before you set sail with Rage of the Seas you must choose your bet size. This can be anything from £0.20 to £400. Each spin will set you back 20 doubloons … er, coins.

Winning spins are secured when you land a minimum of three symbols in sequence across the reels, commencing from the left-hand reel. Because this is an ‘all ways pay’ slot the actual position of the symbols on each individual reel does not matter. Wins are paid in coins in the amounts shown below.

Eyepatch Pirate101525
Lady Pirate101525
Baldy Pirate101525

This slot has a high number of features, as described below.

If you land a ‘Boost’ symbol on any of the three middle rows then that row will expand to seven symbols high. You will also trigger four feature spins.

All of the following features are random and can be triggered at any stage of play:

Stacked Wilds: A stacked octopus wild will appear on one or more of the middle three reels, covering between one and four symbols.

Spreading Wilds: A spreading wild can appear anywhere on the middle three reels. It will then stick up to two spreading wilds onto adjacent positions covering over the original symbols (except for wild, boost or scatter symbols).

Major Reel Upgrade: All anchor and gunpowder symbols are removed from the reels.

Minor Reel Upgrade: All wheel and bottle symbols are removed from the reels.

Free spins are awarded with boost symbols, or when you land a minimum of three scatters anywhere on the reels. Three scatters will award you five free spins, four will award you eight free spins and five will award you the maximum of a dozen free spins.

Graphics and Sounds

The appearance of the reels will come as a little bit of a surprise to fans of NetEnt’s slots, as the reels do not really make this game look like a NetEnt slot at all. The symbols are fairly static with little in the way of animation. One thing we do like though – when a boost symbol lands a little monkey climbs out of the box and up the screen to expand the reel on which it appears to seven rows.

In terms of sounds, the background music is just what you’d expect when playing any pirate-themed slot. It’s set just about right too, and becomes a little more hectic during bonus spins. The rest of the sound effects are just what you’d expect.

So, how does this NetEnt effort compare to other new online slots in 2020? Well, if this was anyone other than NetEnt we’d say this was a good game, but as it’s NetEnt we have higher expectations. Sadly, as with Hotline 2 NetEnt are continuing to disappoint a little and we expect better from them. Have no doubt this is a good game, but it is not a good NetEnt game, and that’s a crucial aspect.

Do you agree with us me hearties? Why not try Rage of the Seas at one of the many online slots sites we at JustSlots recommend?

Q. Can you recommend any other pirate-based online slots games?

A. Argh we can! Why not try Hook’s Heroes (by NetEnt!), Red Flag Fleet by SG Digital or Pirate Plunder by Playtech?

Q. How can a slot have 5,488 paylines?

A. Because all possible paylines are in play. When (and if) you expand the reels to 4-7-7-7-4, the number of paylines become (4x7x7x7x4=) 5,488.

Q. Are any other NetEnt games up and coming in the near future?

A. Yep! Expect to see The Trillionaire, Dark King Forbidden Riches and Vegas Night Life before the end of the year. You will see a few released by NetEnt subsidiary Red Tiger too.
