Reel Rush Review

Look and Feel

Reel Rush is a classic-looking slot from NetEnt that has five reels, five rows and between 45 and 3,125 ways to win. This slot is somewhat unique as the reels commence in a 1-3-5-3-1 pattern. Every win triggers a respin, and with each re-spin the board expands. On the first re-spin it’s 3-3-5-3-1, then 3-3-5-3-3 until it maxes out where all five reels and all five rows are in play.

This means that the number of possible paylines increases too. Normally, there are 45 paylines, but upon the first re-spin this increases to 135, and so on all the way up to the maximum of 3,125. NetEnt released a sequel to this slot in 2019, called ‘Reel Rush 2’.

Jackpot

You will not be rushing to this game any time soon if you only play slots with progressive jackpots as this slot doesn’t have one. There’s the chance of winning major moolah though if you are fortunate enough. This biggest single line prize is for 5,000 coins, which is won by landing five strawberries on a payline.

Play for Real Money

The Reel Rush demo game used to be available to players in the United Kingdom, but it has not been since 2019. This is due to regulation changes put in place by the UKGC. If you want to play Reel Rush for free, or if you want to play it for real money, then you will need to sign up for an online casino. The great news is that there are dozens of online casinos where Reel Rush is available. Here at JustSlots, we particularly recommend the Genesis Casino. If you play here be sure to check out the many beneficial promos and bonuses that are available.

Rules

It costs fifty coins to take Reel Rush for a single spin. The lowest available coin value is £0.01, and the highest is £0.20. This gives a range of bets-per-spin of between £0.50 and £10.00.

The ‘Wild’ symbol is wild in this game and it substitutes for all other symbols.

All wins are paid for identical symbols appearing on consecutive reels, starting from the left-hand reel only. The row the symbol appears on does not matter. All wins are paid as multiples of the value of your coin, in line with the following paytable.

The main feature of this game is the ‘revealing re-spins’ feature. For each winning spin a re-spin is awarded where a little more of the playing arena is revealed, increasing your chances of winning. More and more of the board is revealed and the re-spins keep on coming until either the full board is revealed, or there are no more winning spins. After the first non-winning spin the board is reset back to the defeat 1-3-5-3-1.

The board is revealed based on the following sequence of spins:

  • Default – 1-3-5-3-1, 45 paylines
  • 1st respin – 3-3-5-3-1, 135 paylines
  • 2nd respin – 3-3-5-3-3, 405 paylines
  • 3rd respin – 3-5-5-3-3, 675 paylines
  • 4th respin – 3-5-5-5-3, 1,125 paylines
  • 5th respin – 5-5-5-5-3, 1,875 paylines

If you manage to make it all the way until the 6th winning respin, then the entire 5×5 grid becomes available with the maximum 3,125 lines. Here you get the best chance of winning something decent as you are awarded eight free spins. Once your free spins are concluded the board is reset back to the default configuration.

Graphics and Sounds

The theme of this game seems to be some kind of candy town where everything is oblong-shaped but with rounded corners – even the trees. Of course oblong trees bear oblong fruit with rounded corners too, which is how we guess the rounded fruit that make up this game came about. The cartoonish theme is completed by the lozenge-style sweets that appear on the playing board too.

This game is played to a nice background tune that does repeat a bit but not so that it becomes incredibly annoying. The reels click into place and there’s a slight electro-fanfare when you secure a win.

While the re-spin wins keeps coming the background tune gets more and more complex with extra beats and harmonies that build to a continuing crescendo. It all gets very exciting until you uncover the entire board and the free spins begin with a completely new background tune.

Both graphically and audio-wise there is very little to fault this game about.

Conclusion

Reel Rush was one of the most inventive games around when it was first released, with its odd pattern of symbols and an expanding playing board. Despite this, it’s an easy game to play, and is immensely popular. There’s also the utterly bonkers sequel Reel Rush 2 if you like slots with a lot of complexity and features!
