Rise of the Mountain King Review

Look and Feel

Rise of the Mountain King is an epic-looking five-reel, three row slot from NextGen Gaming, released via their parent company SG Digital. Epic-ness has made a comeback of late, probably because of the popularity of Game of Thrones. Just think – all that debate about whom would end up upon the Iron Throne made pointless because (SPOILER) an annoyed dragon melted it. The new question that arises via this slot is who is the mountain king, why is he rising and what was he doing at the bottom of the mountain anyway? All these questions may possibly be answered via our Rise of the Mountain King review.

Jackpot

Despite rising to the top of the peak, the Mountain King has not seen fit to furnish this game with any kind of progressive jackpot. We have crunched the numbers though and we think the maximum you can win in a spin is 5,000 times the size of your bet.

Play for Real Money

As you probably are based in the UK then you will know that you cannot play slots in the UK for ‘play money’ because of UKGC restrictions. You can play this slot at plenty of places for real money though, including Dunder Casino. This really is a great place to play with 1600+ games. Check out the site’s welcome offers too!

Rules

Your journey up the mountain commences with the selection of your bet. Each bet cost thirty coins – the minimum bet is £0.30 and the maximum is £15.00 (so, coin sizes £0.01 to £0.50). Wins are paid in the usual way – three (and sometimes two) or more identical symbols on a payline in sequence from the left-hand reel onwards. Wins are paid as multiples of your coin size, as follows:

The main feature in this game is the King’s Respin Feature. If you land three or more wilds then you are awarded a free respin in which the three wilds which triggered the respin remain in their positions. In addition, any scatters that appeared on the triggering spin will turn into wilds. If you land any wild upon your respin in any position then you are awarded a further respin and you can keep triggering respins as many times as this happens. These new wilds also remain in position.

There is also the Rise of the Multiplier feature, which will award you free games when you land three or more scatters. During free games you can collect scatters which can increase the wild multiplier up to a maximum of x100. Three scatters will earn you eight free spins, four will earn you nine and five will earn you the maximum of ten.

During the Rise of the Multiplier feature a collect meter will appear above the reels. This will count up the number of scatters that land during the feature (including the scatters that triggered the feature). Scatters will also add one to the overall number of free games you have been awarded.

There’s also the Wild Multiplier that is only active during free games, which commences with a value of x5 and increases by one every time a new wild lands. The level of the Wild Multiplier also increases for every three scatters that are collected during the feature. This then maxes out at x100.

Once your free spins are over your total winnings amassed during the feature are multiplied by the current state of the Wild Multiplier, which is then reset back to x1.

There is a ‘Buy Pass Feature’ but this is likely not to be active in UK-facing casinos due to UKGC regulations. The ‘Gamble’ feature is also likely to be switched off if you are in the UK. The maximum amount you can win is also set to £250,000, although this may be altered by the casino at which you are playing this game.

Graphics and Sounds

The Rise of the Mountain King certainly has an epic look and feel about it. The symbols are very nicely rendered, so if you are into eye candy you are very likely to adore this slot. There is very little animation though, aside from a bit of symbol swelling when you land a win.

The music is orchestral with a heavy drumbeat. There are added thumps and stings when you complete a victorious payline too. It’s not decent enough to be noteworthy, but then again not bad enough to be annoying.

Conclusion

We have to say we are none the wiser as to why the Mountain King has fallen, and why he is rising again. This is an okay slot with features that have been seen elsewhere, put perhaps not combined before in such a manner. It’s certainly worth an investigatory spin or two.
