Look and Feel

The Demon Code is the latest online slots release from NextGen Gaming released via their SG Games parent company. Can you remember the days when every slot release had five reels and three rows? Well we can but those days seem well and truly behind us. Slots with expanding reels, unusual set-ups, cluster pays and a 3×3 playing grid seem more common than the 5×3 arena, which is something that can only be good news! Here is another entry in the ‘cluster pays’ aspect of online slots, The Demon Code!

We thought this game would be based on the terrible book The Da Vinci Code (and not so bad but still bad movie) but thankfully, it’s not. You are cast down into the depths of some spooky dungeon when you start spinning, where creepy demons cling on to the side of the reels. Thankfully it’s great news for your soul as the demons here do seem to be on your side! Read on to learn more about this demonic slot!

The first demonic aspect of this slot is that it does not possess a progressive jackpot. You can still win a pretty penny if good fortune smiles on you though, up to 12,500 times the value of your stake.

Play for Real Money

Speaking of demons, the people at the UKGC have decided that UK players will not be able to play this online slot for free or for play money. You can be an angel and play it for real money though, at plenty of places including Slots Million. We often champion this site at JustSlots, because of the many great games and bargain offers. Why not go and check them out?

Your first step along the demonic path in this game is to choose your total bet size. This is a ‘one bet per spin’ game as opposed to coins. Your bet can be as low as £0.10, or as high as £20.00. Each spin has a fixed cost of ten coins.

Don’t worry about the reels here as it’s more a case of a playing grid that starts off 6×6. You need to gather clusters of identical symbols in order to gain a win. A cluster is a group of identical symbols that touch each other either horizontally or vertically (not diagonally). A cluster must contain at least four symbols. Wins are paid as coins per cluster size, as follows:

* There are four different coloured diamonds. In a cluster all diamonds must be the same colour.

As is common in ‘cluster pays’ slots this game as the cascade feature. When a winning cluster is formed all symbols that form part of that cluster vanish and are replaced by new symbols falling from heaven. This may trigger fresh wins. There is a win multiplier too that increases by one with every cascade win or ‘Enter the Void’ award (see below). This starts at x1 and multiplies any win, but is reset when cascade wins cease.

The wild symbol in this game does what you expect it to do – substitute for all other symbols aside from the scatter symbol.

Rows are added to the slot when free games are awarded, or the meter resets.

As we’ve mentioned, four demons cling to the reels as you play, waiting to unleash their special abilities. Demons are summoned by the appearance of the appropriate talisman symbol which may appear at random following a cascade win:

  • Ancient Alchemy (Green Demon): Mystery symbols are randomly added. All mystery symbols are revealed as the same symbol.
  • Cryptic Chaos (Blue Demon): A random symbols pay anywhere (it does not have to form a cluster).
  • Dark Design (Purple Demon): Wild symbols are randomly added.
  • Fiery Fusion (Red Demon): A symbol block is added at random.

There is also the ‘Enter the Void’ feature which can be triggered after there are no winning combos after a cascade win and at least one wild symbol remains in the playing area. All wilds and any symbol touching a wild (even diagonally) is removed to create a cascade.

You need to look out for the scatter symbol. If you land four scatters then you are gifted 10 bonus games during which the reels can increase until they are twelve rows high. The win multiplied is also unleashed and become unlimited. Scatters are counted and you need to total five to cause a meter reset.

Graphics and Sounds

This game doesn’t have the fiery appearance of other hellish games, but the playing arena is still not somewhere you’d go for a picnic at, complete with gloomy dungeons and malevolent eyes. The animation is set just where it needs to be – nothing too flashy so that it detracts from the rest of the game.

The music is nice and creepy too, although again set just right so that it is not overbearing. The rest of the sound FX are the fall of the symbols and a nice little explosion when the symbols explode off the reels.

We are very fond of ‘cluster pays’ slots as they offer something a little different when it comes to playing new online slots in 2020 and we are very fond of this effort from NextGen Gaming via SG Digital. It’s not brilliant, but it is certainly good enough to play more than a few times. Our only criticism is that it does seem a little difficult to obtain any feature that increases the reels beyond their default 6×6 status.

If you fancy a bit of demonic possession, why not be possessed by this slot at one of our many recommended online casinos?

Q. Is this online slots game by NextGen Gaming, or by SG Digital?

A. Both. SG Digital (formerly Scientific Games) have made it a habit of theirs in recent years to swallow up smaller software companies and have them as subsidiaries. This fate has befallen some familiar names – Bally, WMS and Barcrest to name but three.

Q. I prefer cluster pays slots to payline slots. What else can you recommend?

A. How about Star Clusters Megaclusters, Jammin’ Jars, Nero’s Fortune or Starz Megaways?

Q. Anything else coming up from SG Digital in the near future?

A. We can’t find any slots planned to be released by SG Digital in the coming months, sorry!
