Red Rake are maybe the only online software company that is based in Spain. Spain does not have a huge tradition of gambling like their European cousins in France and Italy, so it’s perhaps understandable why so few online casinos operate in Spanish markets.
Casinos were only legalised in Spain in 1977, but online gambling was still very much discouraged. It wasn’t until 2012 that the Spanish government created online gambling legislation, and it was 2014 when online slots were legalised.
Red Rake came into being in 2011, concentrating on English and Spanish-speaking markets as opposed to Spain itself. It wasn’t until 2016 though that they entered the real money realm of online casinos.

Who are Red Rake?
When Red Rake came into being in 2011, they had a very different vision to the one they eventually adopted. The company was founded by a pair of gaming experts who had previously worked for Our.com, which was a company that created casual online games that included online casino games and other games covering bingo, dominoes, gin rummy and even marbles. All these games though were for casual play only – they could not be played for real money and were only available via platforms such as Facebook.
Two creatives from Our.com set up Red Rake with the intention of following the same model as Our.com, but in 2015 decided to change track and create real money games that could be hosted at online casinos. Their first game – Red Dragon v Blue Dragon – came out in 2016 and the company have been releasing a steady string of games ever since, with a great deal of success covering Asian markets.
Despite their multi-game background Red Rake have concentrated mainly on slots and have yet to produce that many casino games. They have also created a few video bingo titles, plus some unique roulette titles under the name ‘Frenzy Disks’.
What Makes Red Rake Unique?
First of all, we can think of no other online casino software company that is based in Spain. As mentioned before, this is probably because beyond sports betting there is no that much of a history of gambling in the country.
Red Rake also have a unique feature on many of their slots in which you can replay any spin. This is useful if you have a winning spin and you want to experience that thrill of winning as many times as you want (without actually winning again).
Finally, Red Rake have a niche of ‘other games’ which include their Frenzy Discs series. These games are simplified versions of roulette with unique features such as having two wheels spin at once.
What Could Red Rake Do Better?
In all honestly you are not going to be rushing to an online casino to play a Red Rake slot anytime soon. Their output over the last few years has been fairly standard although they have tried different game mechanics other than the classic 5×3 playing grid.
This is not to say that their games are awful, as they most certainly are not. It’s just that their gaming portfolio does not include any stand-out slots … yet.
Three of the Best – Red Rake Games
Million 777 is the closest Red Rake have gotten to a concept slot, in the same way Big Time Gaming have taken over the slotting world with their Megaways makeover idea.
The slot has a super-sized playing arena, with six reels and ten rows, although not every space is populated by a symbol upon every spin.
The game also has a number of different features that up the interest in this game considerably. One such mini game is the ‘777 Minigame’ in which the playing screen is switched to a standard 5×3 layout but with coins instead of symbols. Spins can now generate new coins and this continues until the free spins run out or the playing arena is completely filled by coins.
Looking a lot like Gimli from Peter Jackson’s cinema version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Gustav is a miner who you hope will dig you out some sizeable wins when you play this online slot.
This game probably has the best graphical layout of any game produced by Red Rake so far.
The only symbols used are jewels, and they fill a hefty playing area that’s eight rows high and eight columns. This is also a ‘cluster pays’ slot as opposed to payline wins. To land a win, a cluster must contain at least five symbols.
Winning clusters vanish and the gaps are filled in by new symbols. If you can land five consecutive cluster wins then bonus features become active.
Frenzy Discs: Twin Numbers
We really can’t mention Red Rake without mentioning this interesting and somewhat unique game. This is roulette but with two distinct differences. The first is that there are two wheels, and the second is that each wheel contains only ten numbers.
You can choose which number you want to bet on for the outer disc, but the number is chosen or you for the inner disc. If you win on the inner disc you earn double your stake, and triple for the outer. However, if you win both you win fifteen times your stake and if the numbers are the same then you win 400 times your stake.
A quirky little game that’s worth a few spins, but is not recommended to playing for an extended period.
A. You’ve probably heard of using a rake for gardening, but casinos use rakes too (especially in roulette and poker) to rake in all the losing chips on the table. So, we guess ‘Red Rake’ was chosen for the casino connection. As the company began trying to appeal to Asian markets, they may have chosen ‘Red’ as that colour is considered to be lucky in Asia.
A. Yes they have! There are no less than twenty video poker titles. All the classics such as Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, Bonus Poker and All American are covered, with different versions of each.
A. Yes you can. Red Rake has licensing from the United Kingdom Gambling Commission.
The Bottom Line
Red Tiger has lived the dream of every company – comRed Rake are number one in Spain when it comes to online casinos games, but then they don’t really have much in the way of competition. They’ve a long way to go before they become number one in Europe, and it’s unlikely that they ever will, or even will want to.
